The Creation of the Day
About the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of João Pessoa
The work "A Criação do Dia" is a classical piece for full orchestra composed by Lalalli Senna for the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of João Pessoa (OSMJP), located in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. It was first presented at the opening of the 3rd International Classical Music Festival of João Pessoa in 2015. The original inspiration for this work comes from traditional Brazilian regional rhythms, such as baião, which are essential elements of the culture, history, and landscape of Paraíba. Lalalli considers Paraíba a source of composers and artists with a significant influence on her creations.
The main theme of "A Criação do Dia" depicts the Sun as the protagonist in its eternal cycle of birth, death, and resurrection. Thus, it is a cyclical work, beginning and ending with the same musical theme. The Sun is presented through its earthly characteristics, connected to natural elements in the context of the cerrado, and related to the "rhythms of the earth," represented in four-beat measures (the four seasons, the four elements), as well as its cosmic/celestial dimension, represented in three-beat measures. This piece showcases the integration of these two numerical representations, 3 and 4, the celestial and the terrestrial, and the life that results from their union. The author dedicates this work to the state of Paraíba, its people, and the OSMJP. As expected, "A Criação do Dia" was warmly received by the audience and has been continuously performed by the João Pessoa Symphony Orchestra, being considered one of the most representative compositions in its repertoire.
"My main goal is to make music an instrument to express the great integration between the sun and the earth, the earthly and celestial aspects united by creation."
Lalalli Senna
