The artwork “A Criação do Dia” (The Creation of the Day) is a classical piece made for full orchestra composed by Lalalli Senna for the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de João Pessoa (OSMJP), a Symphony Orchestra located in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, and was first presented in the opening of the 3º Festival Internacional de Música Clássica de João Pessoa, in 2015. The original inspiration for this artwork lays in the traditional Brazilian regional rhythms such as the baião, essential part of the culture, history and landscape of Paraíba. Lalalli considers Paraíba a lifespring of composers and artists with high influence over her creations. The main theme of “Criação do Dia” depicts the Sun as the protagonist along to its eternal cycle of birth, death and resurrection. Therefore, it’s a cyclical artwork, which begins and ends under the same musical theme. The Sun is presented through its earthly feature — linked to the natural-telluric elements within a context of the Savannahs, and related to the “rhythms of the earth”, represented in quaternary rhythms (the four seasons, the four elements), and also its cosmic/celestial dimension, represented in ternary rhythms. This piece shows an integration of these two numerical representations, 3 and 4, the celestial and the earthly, and the life that results from their union. The author dedicates this artwork to the state of Paraíba, to the People of Paraíba, and to the OSMJP. As expected, “Criação do Dia” was warmly welcomed into audiences and has been continuously executed by the João Pessoa Symphony Orchestra, being considered one of the most representative compositions in their repertoire.
"My main goal is to make music an instrument to express the great integration between the Sun and the Earth, the telluric and celestial aspects united for Creation".
LALALLI SENNA
“I myself admire many artists from Paraíba. I recognize this majesty in the culture of Paraíba, and I also relish their strong connection to the land. All these elements inspired me to create this artwork.” “It speaks about the process of death and resurrection of the Sun, and the rebirth of life that comes along. That's why the beginning and the end are equipollent, the cycle is always complete, and always restarts.”

The OSMJP emerged from the Orquestra de Câmara da Cidade de João Pessoa (the City Chamber Orchestra), created in 2001. In 2013 it became the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de João Pessoa, being officially presented in the I Festival Internacional de Música Clássica de João Pessoa under the artistical direction and regency of the conductor Laércio Sinhorelli Diniz.
“Lalalli is a composer that brilliantly brings the influence of various arts to her music, turning her work into a perfect sensorial palette. She’s a multi-artist that dives deep into all of her multi-talents and therefore allow us to hear, watch and feel her art in a way that easily transports us to a colorful world of emotions.”
Laércio Diniz, Chief-conductor of the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de João Pessoa
